Northern Hydro Workforce Camp
Modular Workforce Camp · Craft & Supervisor Dorms · Northern Manitoba
A modular workforce camp built for a provincial hydroelectric utility supporting a major generating-station construction project in northern Manitoba. The camp pairs two tiers of accommodation — efficient craft dormitory rooms and upgraded supervisor rooms — with shared dining and social spaces, all delivered as factory-built steel modules and assembled on a remote site engineered for deep-winter conditions.
The Challenge
The utility needed quality on-site accommodation for its construction workforce at a remote northern site, where extreme winters and limited road access make conventional construction slow and costly. Crews needed comfortable, durable rooms — with a clear distinction between craft and supervisor accommodation — ready before the main construction season.
Our Solution
We designed two modular room types — a compact, efficient craft room and a larger supervisor room with upgraded finishes — both built and fully outfitted in the factory. Dormitory buildings were stacked two stories high on insulated foundations, and a central dining lounge gave crews a place to gather. Cold-climate detailing throughout kept the buildings comfortable through the northern Manitoba winter.
