A community centre and multi-use hub for a remote northern Québec municipality, engineered for extreme cold down to -50°C and delivered entirely by truck over logging roads. The project included a community gathering hall, health clinic, and administrative offices — transforming civic life for a community of 800 residents.
The Challenge
The municipality needed a permanent civic facility but had no road suitable for conventional construction equipment, no local skilled trades, and winter temperatures reaching -50°C. Traditional construction was logistically impossible. The project had to be engineered and delivered entirely from the south.
Our Solution
We engineered the building for extreme cold with triple-layer insulation, thermal bridges eliminated from the structural system, and mechanical systems designed for arctic conditions. The building was divided into prefabricated sections sized for transport on logging roads and assembled on-site by a self-sufficient crew who brought all tools, equipment, and supplies.
